Amsterdam With Kids: Bibliotheek Centraal
Oh, what shall one do with kids when the whether is bad in Amsterdam ? Visit the public library ! Located right next to the main train station, the central public library (Bibliotheek Centraal) is a nice spot that allows you to spend a fun moment while it’s raining or cold (or both) outside.
With having the entire floor in the basement dedicated to kids, there is plenty of space to discover the big offer in children’s books (there is also a small international selection ) while laying on one of the cozy round sofas or oversized arm chairs. Moreover, the space features as well some toys and places where the little ones can play hide and seek, being equipped with a teepee and a small wooden play house.
What I like most about this library is that toddlers can run around pretty safely. Well, and if your child is a fan of climbing stairs, you will be delighted that there is also a structure that allows to climb on it (parents must watch their kids though) and have a nice view over the whole area…not to forget the main staircase that leads you to the ground floor, which is actually my little bird’s most favorite thing there. For the hungry ones, there is the library cafe on the top floor that can be accessed either via the escalator or the elevator.
On top of all this, the entrance is for free…do I need to say more ? See you there on the next bad weather day 😉
