I have never seen such a big offer in socks anywhere else than in Japan. Both my man and I bought about ten pairs of socks. Woven ones, multi coloured ones, graphic ones; you name it. We were completely blown away by the passion and attention that the Japanese put into dressing their feet and incorporating that part of their body into their outfits.
Back in Amsterdam I was super happy when I discovered that Sock Mama had finally launched its webshop. I got to know this brand last year when I received a really nice and colourful pair of socks from their Textured Sock Line as a gift from a friend. At that time, Sock Mama only had an Index webpage and an Instagram Account with a tiny amount of pictures. Those who wanted to get hold of a pair had to go to one of Berlin’s select design markets such as VOODOO MARKET.
Now, that the webshop is launched, I finally discovered the full collection which holds what Sock Mama’s founders, Zie Wang and Nye Best, were aiming for: Having discovered so many pairs of unique socks while travelling through Japan, Korea, and China, they decided to create a collection for women and men which brings together all of their favourite designs under one name. Graphic socks, animal and fruit socks to go completely kawaii (means cute in Japanese) and transparent “Harajuku style” socks, to name a few … they are all there and available for a really fair price (5 – 7 EUR, ships everywhere in Europe).
So if you want to show your feet some love and add a little something to your look, roll up your jeans and rock those socks … and if you want to be as cool as your kiddo, then check out Sock Mama’s version for adults of the currently most Instagrammed toddler sock ever, the racoon sock by Mini dressing 😉
