Barefoot Little Walkers: Lieblinge

With all the baby moccasin brands out there, I was so sure that these would be the first shoes for my son. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Lieblinge.  Lieblinge (darling in German) are shoes for babies and toddlers that do not only look cute but that are designed to help and support them while making their first steps and learning how to walk. Made of super soft high quality organic leather, these soft sole shoes are cut in an anatomically optimized way, allowing them to grow with the kid’s feet for about two (!) sizes. This is a great feature as it means that your child can wear the shoes for a longer period of time compared to other brands. Thanks to an elastic, they stay on the feet and do not fall off which is one thing you definitely want when buying baby shoes; you want them to stay on!

I love the fact that these shoes are 100% ecological. Whether it’s the leather (organic and chrome free),  the colors (only natural without traces of heavy metals) or the production (100% made in Germany), sustainability is present throughout the whole development process. This means as well that if your little one would want to eat the shoe, he/she could actually do it (and believe me, that’s the first thing Thiago did) 😉

The shoes are available in a variety of beautiful colors in three different designs (classics, specials and combis) that feature just the right amount of originality without overdoing anything (no crazy butterfly, car or fireman appliques here). Now in winter time, you can even add the option to insert a lamb skin inner sole, making the shoes all warm and cozy on the inside. Currently available in the brand’s webshop (currently only in German but easy to navigate), the shoes start at 43 EUR (price varies with size).

My Experience

Before purchasing our first pair in the color cognanc,  I went to a shop to try out a couple of other brands (i.e. Easy Peasy) but they did not stay on the feet (5 sec max!).  We are now at our second pair of Lieblinge – this time in the bright color mango. I love that they grow with my child’s feet as well as their high quality. Thiago is really comfortable in them as they seem to feel like a second skin. Compared to other shoes that he owns, he does not take the Liebinge off and is even comfortble when wearing them without socks. I guess that’s because he feels like being barefoot when wearing them and being barefoot, that we know, is the best for little walkers 😉
