Amsterdam Shopping: Keet In Huis

Keet in HuisThere is a kids store in Amsterdam that is to me (well, the mama-me) what Tiffany’s is to Holly Golightly in my all time favorite movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Located in our neighborhood on the KNSM Eiland in the East of Amsterdam, Keet in Huis is a store that offers on two floors modern baby and kids clothing, home wear, furniture and toys; all displayed with such attention to detail that visiting the store is always a great source for inspiration. Owned by Imps & Elfs, Keet in Huis obviously sells the full range of this well-known Dutch kids clothing brand but also a nice selection from other lables such as Bobo ChosesKids CasePetit Bateau and American Outfitters.

Furniture for the nursery and kids room represents the latest in Dutch and Skandinavian design and comes from brands such as BudtzBendix and Leander. Beside selling these beautiful but rather pricey items, occasionally, the store also offers second hand pieces. Thanks to the program “Retourtje Keet“,  customers who have purchased furniture at Keet in Huis can return it. The pieces are then re-sold at a more affordable price (depending on the item’s condition). The staff is always welcoming, helpful and of good advice and what I love most is that they do not push you to buy which makes the whole store experience very peaceful.

I discovered Keet in Huis when I moved to Amsterdam, heavily pregnant and almost ready to pop. I visited the store often, purchased cute items for Thiago’s wardrobe and nursery, some gifts for the birth of my friend’s babies or just wandered around, looking at the beautiful and cute things. With a hot chocolate and a croissant from the bakery Neeltje (it is just around the corner, sooo good!), going there is one of my rituals that I definitely don’t want to miss.
